CHILDREN'S CHOIR OF CENTRAL VIRGINIA
About our choirs
THE TOURING CHOIR
Grades 3 – 8
The “touring choirs” are for choristers that are interested in deepening their knowledge and experience of singing through longer more enriching rehearsals and multiple performances both locally and abroad. There are usually at least 5 performances a semester. Members will sing a wide variety of music including, but not limited to popular music, Broadway, classical, folk and jazz. No prior music experience is necessary to join, just a good attitude and a willingness to improve. Choristers are asked to spend 10 minutes, three days a week, doing simple homework assignments. Members receive special pricing for private piano and voice lessons; see the next page for more information. Members of this choir will learn how to read sheet music. Anyone interested in this choir must also be part of the “Just One Choir”.
THE JUST ONE CHOIR
Grades 1 – 2 & Grades 3 – 8
The “just one” choir is for those who would like to explore what it’s like to sing in a choir. No prior music experience is necessary to join. This choir is a good stepping-stone for those who may like to join one of the “touring choirs” or take private lessons. Members will sing a wide variety of music including, but not limited to popular music, Broadway, classical, folk and jazz. There will be no homework or extra rehearsals. Good behavior and listening skills are essential. Children will be taught by rote; there will be no emphasis on learning how to read sheet music. NOTE: we must have at least 15 children signed up for grades 1-2 before we will establish it as a separate group for this age range.
